The Contagion is Catching!

In Salford which is part of the Greater Manchester Police area the District Judge sat at the Magistrates’ Court has made a valiant effort to be considered as having made the most ridiculous legal decision ever. If you want to read about it then check out the Manchester Evening News for details. I am sure it will be national news in a bit.

The decision essentially is that he considers that the detention clock should run when a suspect is not in detention! That means that the bailing of suspects for a few weeks whilst further enquiries are made should now cease to happen. This Judge must be extremely well qualified, you would think, so how has he come by this decision. However, this example of sheer stupidity has been ratified by the High Court. Are the Judges on the side of the right and proper thinking. If they are, how can they possibly interpret that this is the message the law makers intended when the relevant law was drawn up. Therefore, his interpretation of the legislation is so poor that he deserves not to be a Judge presiding over the law and should be sacked.

It is simply stupid to think that this invite to criminals getting away with their wrong-doing can improve the efficiency of the judicial system. What should happen is he should be hauled in front of the people charged with ensuring the judiciary act in the best interests of the country and interpret the laws as the man on the “Clapham Omnibus” would expect them to be. Once there he should be disrobed and banished to paper clip counting where he is unlikely to have to make another important decision again.

If only there was an offence of outright stupidity in a public office we could save the country from rack and ruin.

  1. Well, you don’t need me to tell you that the Home Office were onto this one pretty quickly, and will be bringing in emergency legislation to sort out the chaos…..and more importantly, to protect the public from dangerous individuals being at large and able to inflict harm upon others.

You said….”If only there was an offence of outright stupidity in a public office, we could save this country from rack and ruin.” ……… You may well have said this in sarcastic jest Mr Noble, but it really does have a great deal of merit, and should be seriously considered by Theresa May and her chums. Because time and time again, it is all too obvious that some people in public office, including politicians, are really stupid and display no common sense whatsoever!

What springs to mind is the recent announcement that the government “believe” that the U.K “needs” more nuclear reactor power stations for our future energy needs….they say to “stop the lights going out”. Not only is this very misleading nonsense, it is a blatant and highly dangerous BIG FAT LIE, of the worst kind…..and that really is very stupid.

Some politicians appear to “believe” what it suits them to believe, especially if that makes them a huge profit, or it saves them a lot of money, or it hides their big mistakes.

The fact remains, that nuclear power IS dangerous to human health because the waste product is lethal for over 1000 yrs.
People are still suffering from the contamination from the Chernobyl disaster just over 25 years ago….large areas of land in the U.K are still contaminated by the fall out. The recent disaster in Japan was a wake up call for the world, to stop using nuclear, as it is very dangerous to ALL life on this fragile planet.

Another undeniable fact, is that in a security and defence review last year, or the year before (can’t remember when) nuclear reactor power stations were identified as a very serious major risk to our national security, because they ARE KNOWN to be a certain target for future terrorist attacks.

Why provide a crazy enemy with a “sitting bomb”?

When there are better and safer alternative methods than toxic nuclear reactors, of creating and providing a country’s energy needs, ONLY THE REALLY STUPID would plan to build a dangerous, lethal, toxic energy plants, that WILL be a magnet for insane terrorists who are determined to cause the death, destruction and suffering of the population……which also includes the poor police officers whose job it is to guard the nuclear power stations 24-7. They and the people of this country deserve far better consideration for their long term safety and well being, than this and the previous government have granted them….from their high offices of great power.

The government have a duty of care. Anyone who ignores their duty of care must be stupid or downright evil and corrupt.

Most right thinking people would find that very offensive.

  2. So how many people have been killed in the UK by the nuclear industry? How many have been killed by the coal industry? Which is safer.

Nuclear is the only low carbon way the UK can generate the electricity it needs other than gas or coal which both have their own problems from CO2 and in the case of gas security of supply.

Last winter only imported French nuclear power stopped there being widespread power cuts in the UK as the UK did not have the capacity to meet peak demand.

  3. Well you would say that Ted, but there are enlightened others who will disagree with you for very good, sound and sensible reasons. It is very difficult to “prove” exactly how many cancer related deaths there have been in the UK and elsewhere in the world because of toxic contamination from nuclear materials which have got into the environment. There are STILL areas of the UK, high ground, that are contaminated by the Chernobyl accident over 25 years ago. The livestock cannot be moved nor sold on into the food chain. The waste product from nuclear reactors is LETHAL for over 1000 years and requires long term expensive control of it, which all ADDS to the cost of the electricity, which is passed on to consumers. It’s a lie that the UK needs polluting nuclear power. The public are being deceived by the government. End of.

There are trials going on at present on non polluting tidal power generation, which will not create a toxic legacy for future generations. The solar panels project is being rolled out across the country. There are plans to create power plants that will turn the contents of kitchen slop buckets into electricity….the same can be done with sewage.
Some areas of the country could be able to use geo-thermal technology, and Scotland aims to harness the wind to generate the power they will need in years to come.

The ONLY people who “need” the nuclear industry, is the nuclear industry itself.

  4. Solar Panels need sun. They are no use for 16 hours a day in winter. Wind is useless in low or high winds. Solar power and wind are expensive and only viable with heavy subsidies.

France seems to manage with mainly nuclear power. The UK can do the same.

  5. Scotland believe that as they experience steady winds throughout the year, that wind turbines will do for them. Solar panels work in light, not just sunlight. The technology has vastly improved in recent years. There are other methods of generating power other than TOXIC nuclear reactors, which need to be BINNED in the public best interest, and in the best interest of national security.

Who do you think actually pays, in the long term, for the high cost of building and maintaining a power industry, which produces a very dangerous waste product that must be managed with the greatest of care for over a thousand years….because it is LETHAL to humans and the environment? The consumers pay for that, calculated in the cost of the electricity charged by the nuclear industry. I doubt that the nuclear power industry could afford to set by billions upon billions of pounds, or dollars, to pay for the long term management of their toxic waste, and for an environmental pollution they may create, without passing the cost on to consumers via their bills.

The French might have been conned into thinking that nuclear is the best thing since sliced bread, and that’s up to them. They eat snails anyway, which is all a matter of taste, and standards.! Just because the French are mad and don’t listen to serious security service warnings, that doesn’t mean that the UK should follow their mistaken lead, like lemmings.

  6. ……And with such a fixed and blinkered opinion Ted, regarding an industry which is neither “green” nor environmentally friendly, you must have some sort of vested interest in the industry. So do you work for the nuclear power industy, or just have lots of shares in it?

In Environmental Law, there is something called the “Polluter Pays Principle”. This means that any industry whose activities cause any pollution or contamination of the environment, must pay to clean up the contamination, and pay for any damage they caused. It’s a difficult one to pin on a slippery industry that is well practiced in denials and cover ups, often condoned by corrupt governments.

There was an accident at the Sellafield plant in 1957, which caused an escape of radioactive materials into the local environment, and that was kept quiet by the government of the time. Workers and locals, including some children, died of cancers, but proving the link has been difficult. The miners had to fight for years to get their claim for industrial related disease acknowledged by successive callous governments. This is how governments have treated the people for a very long time. If you think that’s OK, and that the government should be allowed to do exactly as THEY wish, because it suits THEM, even if it causes harm to the people, then you have very little humanity or concern for fellow human beings.

The UK will do a lot BETTER without nuclear power plants in the future. Alternative forms of renewable energy that do not create a toxic legacy for future generations, really IS in the public and national best interests, and will provide cheaper power in the long term. Anyone who argues with that common sense must have a vested interest in nuclear power.
